Neck Pain

When people experience pain in their neck it can be very disabling. As with many acute injuries, whilst initially frightening they will settle down quickly with the correct physiotherapy management approach.

Chronic neck pain can occur when it occurs beyond the expected time frame for healing. There are a number of factors that can cause this to occur such as;

  • Stiff neck vertebrae

  • Protective movement patterns

  • Poor posture

  • Inadquate control of the neck

When these issues are combined with other variable like sustained high levels of stress, not enough sleep, anxiety, being fearufl of neck movement and depression can amplify pain levels.

All of these issues can be identified and corrected with the correct management approach by your physiotherapist at PhysioLogix who will ease your symptoms whilst also correcting any underlying cause of your pain.

  • Sleeping with the neck at an awkward position

  • Falling or sudden impact that pushes the head to the side, such as sports injuries

  • Turning the head side to side repeatedly during an activity, such as swimming the front crawl stroke

  • Slouching with poor posture while viewing the computer monitor or looking downward at a mobile phone for prolonged periods (sometimes referred to as "text neck")

  • Experiencing excessive stress or anxiety, which can lead to tension in the neck

  • Holding the neck in an abnormal position for a long period, such as cradling a phone between the neck and shoulder
